FUNCTIONS OF INSTITUTE
- Develop, manufacture and produce vaccines, drugs and biologics for prevention and treatment of livestock, poultry, wild life, Fish and aquaculture, and of veterinary public health importance; The DVM doctors are eligible to give the treatment of the institute poultry, wild life, fish, agriculture, and veterinary. The DVM doctors are entitled to certify the meat of chicken as useable for human health.
- Distribute, sale and enter into agreement for sale and distributions of such vaccines, drugs and biologics.
- Conduct survey, research, tests and experiments for the composition, safety, potency and efficacy of such vaccines, drugs and biologics, and of those distributed and sold in its jurisdiction as well as on commercial basis.
- Collect samples, conduct surveillance studies and provide diagnostic services for the livestock, poultry and their products.
- Take efforts, studies, and research for the prevention of emerging infectious diseases in animals.
- Provide seat of learning for higher education, research and surveillance for the students of the related field as per policy of the government.
- Provide trainings, refresher courses, conduct seminars and to grant certificates and diplomas to such persons as prescribed in the rules.
- Create posts for research, extension, marketing, administration and other related purposes and to appoint persons as prescribed in rules.
- Institute and award fellowships, scholarships, exhibitions, bursaries, medals and prizes under prescribed conditions.
- Make provisions for research and advisory services and with these objects to enter into arrangements with other institutions or with public bodies under prescribed conditions; and
- Provide for the printing and publication of research and other works.
